the backstory on Altus

Note: My research on Altus' history is to satisfy my own historical curiosity and to better understand his doggy needs, and is not meant to antagonize either the pro- or anti-racing crowds. I am neutral.

parentage

Altus was whelped in Texas on April 10, 1999, and registered with the NGA to an owner near Brownsville, Tx. His markings are described on the back.

His sire was Visa Trip (KB's Greyhound Farm in Thorndale, Tx) and his dam was Pin Oak Abby, whose offspring appeared to win 13 top-grade races in 2002 and 24 in 2001. Altus almost certainly does not figure in those winning stats!

racing

It appears that Altus (Pin Oak Altus) raced in Massachusetts at the Raynham Greyhound Park. There are racing results for him in 2000 here and in 2001 here. He appears to have been running as grade C and placing 2nd/3rd if I'm reading this right. Does anybody know how to read these results?

This slip shows some other races for Altus, which show his 2002 races to be in Class D. Looks like he was slow even for the slowpoke group! :-) Good! I'm glad that's how he got to be here with us.
